Update on coffee hour meeting place

Last night we decided that we like the Starbucks at Exit 232 because it's easy access and close proximity for so many of us. So we're planning to have our monthly coffee hour (on the LAST Tuesday of the month) there for the foreseeable future.

Come and join us! It's fun to visit and we're planning OUR 40-year reunion!

40 Years of Fun - Class of 1971

Plz Note: The reunion info is distributed in a monthly e'mail that goes to all SWHS Class of 71 people who are on our distribution list. If you're not getting the e'mail - you still can! Contact us via this blog.

Our 40-year reunion is July 9th, after the SWHS Alumni Assn all class-picnic.
The all-class picnic starts at 11 a.m. at Riverfront Park. $15 per person.
Our reunion starts at 5 p.m. at JB and Sue Bryson’s. Also $15 per person.
If you want to know more about the all-class picnic, send me an e’mail. Prepay for both events.

We’re having salmon, baked potatoes, salads, and dessert. We will be asking people to bring salads/side dishes/bread. The rest we can provide out of the $15. Gary Rothenbuhler is cooking the salmon!

We’re also providing some non-alcoholic beverages, table service, and background music. You are welcome to bring the beverage of your choice!

Yes, we’ll need help setting up and taking down.

We decided on strawberry shortcake for dessert. We’ll get one of those 5-gallon buckets of berries and some shortcake or other cake and whipped topping. And people can assemble their own and add sugar or not.

Bring your cameras. We will have a “photo area” and will probably also have a photographer on hand.

We’ll stay and visit as late as we can stay up…

An e’mail invitation and a hard copy invitation will go out about mid-May. That’s when it will be time to pay.

The Alumni Assn newsletter will go out about mid-April and I’ll forward it to you as an e'mail with pdf attachment. There will be picnic info in it.

There WILL be an entry in the Loggerodeo parade for our class, so plan to meet at the parade assembly area about 10 a.m. or so on the 4th of July. We haven’t acquired a trailer/hay bales yet, but we’ll keep working on that.

There will very likely be a coffee hour on the Thursday before the reunion, during the day, mostly for the benefit of those traveling in to the area from far away! Stay tuned for that info.

Right now we have contact info of one kind or another for 135 people (not all have e’mail) and information on the deaths of 23. The list of folks we're looking for was sent to all e'mail recipients on March 23.

We'll put together a "booklet" after the reunion with info for each individual - probably in MS Publisher and probably available via CD or hard copy.

We are looking for about 112 more people who were in our class - those who graduated or didn't graduate with us (some moved away before graduation) are all welcome to attend our reunion!

Keep in touch! Our big day will be here soon!

SWHS piano rededicated

Some of you may have heard that four SWHS students recently undertook the renovation of the school's 1922 Steinway piano as their senior project. They raised $5000 and had the piano professionally restored. The piano was "rededicated" at an event in January 2011. The piano is beautifully restrung and refinished, but the old deep dings in the surface are still there! Wonder how many the Class of 71 is responsible for...

At the rededication, some students performed and our old friend, Jerry Sommerseth, played the Steinway to show off its revitalized look and sound.
Thanks to these seniors for their idea and their persistence in making the Steinway piano ready for another 50 years of service!
