Monthly coffee hour, Tuesday, August 30th 5ish to 7ish

The HEAT of summer should taper off by Tuesday when we meet for coffee at The Woolley Market!  But they have lovely cool beverages as well as the hot ones.  Come on and meet us there!

We're sitting downstairs now instead of on the mezzanine.  There is another business upstairs and the seating has become more limited.  So we thought we'd leave it to the young people and save our knees on those stairs.

There's always lots to talk about and interesting things going on.  Be part of the conversation!

See you August 30th!

Monthly coffee hour - Tuesday, December 29th from 5-7 at The Woolley Market

Yes!  We do meet in December!  After the craziness of the holiday month we like to sit and relax and visit.  Sometimes class members from out of town are visiting family here, and they attend.  Is it you?

Usual time and place - 5ish to 7ish at The Woolley Market in downtown Sedro-Woolley.  A great place to meet and pick up a few specialty groceries for the week.

Have you seen the decorations in downtown Sedro-Woolley?  All your favorites are there - the lights at the Sedro-Woolley welcome sign; the banners, lights, and winter branches on the light poles, and our big Christmas tree at the intersection of Metcalf and Woodworth!  Downtown has a little magic at Christmastime and you should be here to feel it!

So sparkle on down to the coffee hour and see who is there.

Early warning:  Our January coffee hour will be Tuesday, January 26, 2016!

Happy new year to the Class of 71 and friends!!

Monthly coffee hour - Tuesday, November 24th - 5ish to 7ish at The Woolley Market

Tuesday, November 24th!  5ish to 7ish.  At the Woolley Market – corner of State and Metcalf.  On the mezzanine!  A nice latte won't spoil your appetite for Thanksgiving!

Just listened to the CUBS beat Hockinson in the WA State AA quarter finals!!  On to semi-finals.  They travel to Ellensburg next Saturday.

Remember that you can check up on downtown Sedro-Woolley by clicking on the downtown cam!

The downtown Christmas parade will be December 5.  See below. You can watch it on the downtown cam!

Early Warning: Our December get-together will be Tuesday, December 29th

See you at the Woolley Market on 11/24!

Oh, and Go CUBS!!

Christmas Parade and Santa Coming December 5th

The annual Sedro-Woolley Community Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th. I keeping with our tradition, Sedro-Woolley will be transformed into Sedro-Whoolleyville for another Dr. Seuss inspired celebration. Featured in the Parade will be Grand Marshalls Jeanne McLennan and Frank Martin along with the arrival of Santa and the ever-present Grinch. There will be a wide variety of events happening throughout the entire day including children's activities, train rides, and pony rides. The Cascade Middle School Choir will provide caroling and an all star selection of judges will be on hand to judge the parade entries.

Following the parade Santa will be available for children of all ages at The Woolley Market.

Monthly Coffee Hour Tuesday August 27th - Starbucks at Exit 232

We had a great time at Darlene and Joel’s last month!  Lots of people came for the event – because there was food?  No!  It was for the company!

Our regular monthly coffee hour will be Tuesday, August 27th!  5ish to 7ish.  We’re back to our regular schedule - at the same place we always meet…see subject line.

Lots of road work going on in SW right now.  They’re rerouting the east end of the Cook Road to run between Walgreen’s and Bingham Park, and terminate on Hwy 20 in a traffic circle.  This will be a big change and the area where the contractors are working will be closed until mid-October.  Traffic is being rerouted on the Trail Road.  Here’s the official notice – it includes a map:

There is other roadwork going on at the same time – most notably on State Street near Paula Wilcox Brunn’s house!

Then, they’re going to install the permanent repair to the Skagit River bridge some time soon and I-5 will be closed and rerouted again during the installation.  There seems to be a traffic crew or an orange barrel everywhere you look!

To repeat myself:  If you want to be on the SWHS Alumni Association’s newsletter distribution, let me know.  And if you run into a Class of 71 member who is not on this distribution list, have them contact me to get on!

Detour on over to Starbucks next Tuesday.  We’ll be there!

Monthly coffee hour - Tuesday December 27th

Two days after Christmas we'll have our monthly coffee hour, and rumors abound that folks from out of town will be attending!  So all of you who are coming to Skagit County and surrounds for the holidays, be sure to get us on your calendar!  And those locals who would like to see visiting class members, this is your big chance!

Same place - Starbucks at exit 232, from 5ish to 7ish.  See you there!

Monthly Coffee Hour Tuesday November 29th

Tuesday, November 29th is our next monthly scheduled gathering of Class of ’71 locals from 5ish to 7ish!

Come on out and visit; we have a hardy group who comes to these coffee hours and we're glad to see everyone!  We also welcome guests from other classes - will we recognize you?

Early warning:  The December gathering will be on Tuesday, December 27th at Starbucks/Cook Road exit.  We always meet on the “last” Tuesday of the month.

If you live out of the area and will be visiting Skagit County during the holidays, plan to come to one of these events and visit with the regulars!

And it's Pumpkin Spice Latte season!

October Monthly Coffee Hour - Tuesday Oct. 25th

Come to Starbucks at Exit 232 for our monthly Class of 1971 coffee hour next Tuesday, 10/25!  5ish to 7ish.  Come as you are or in costume - if you want to get some extra use out of that Halloween costume.

Anybody still have photos to share from our 40-year reunion?

Any advice for Class of 72 as they prepare for their 40-year celebration?  Think about it...

An "informal" coffee hour among friends

On Friday, July 8th, we had an informal coffee hour at Paula Wilcox Brunn's mother's house (easier to find than describe) just to get in some extra visiting before the reunion on Saturday.  We were so glad to see these folks:  Renee Russell Swanson, Leilani Waidelich Morrison, Nancy Lutterloh Burns, Debra Ruthford King, Paula Wilcox Brunn, Mary Bryant Martin, Judy Johnson.  Guests and photographers:  Pat Wilcox and Graham Carr.

Update on coffee hour meeting place

Last night we decided that we like the Starbucks at Exit 232 because it's easy access and close proximity for so many of us. So we're planning to have our monthly coffee hour (on the LAST Tuesday of the month) there for the foreseeable future.

Come and join us! It's fun to visit and we're planning OUR 40-year reunion!

40 Years of Fun - Class of 1971

Plz Note: The reunion info is distributed in a monthly e'mail that goes to all SWHS Class of 71 people who are on our distribution list. If you're not getting the e'mail - you still can! Contact us via this blog.

Our 40-year reunion is July 9th, after the SWHS Alumni Assn all class-picnic.
The all-class picnic starts at 11 a.m. at Riverfront Park. $15 per person.
Our reunion starts at 5 p.m. at JB and Sue Bryson’s. Also $15 per person.
If you want to know more about the all-class picnic, send me an e’mail. Prepay for both events.

We’re having salmon, baked potatoes, salads, and dessert. We will be asking people to bring salads/side dishes/bread. The rest we can provide out of the $15. Gary Rothenbuhler is cooking the salmon!

We’re also providing some non-alcoholic beverages, table service, and background music. You are welcome to bring the beverage of your choice!

Yes, we’ll need help setting up and taking down.

We decided on strawberry shortcake for dessert. We’ll get one of those 5-gallon buckets of berries and some shortcake or other cake and whipped topping. And people can assemble their own and add sugar or not.

Bring your cameras. We will have a “photo area” and will probably also have a photographer on hand.

We’ll stay and visit as late as we can stay up…

An e’mail invitation and a hard copy invitation will go out about mid-May. That’s when it will be time to pay.

The Alumni Assn newsletter will go out about mid-April and I’ll forward it to you as an e'mail with pdf attachment. There will be picnic info in it.

There WILL be an entry in the Loggerodeo parade for our class, so plan to meet at the parade assembly area about 10 a.m. or so on the 4th of July. We haven’t acquired a trailer/hay bales yet, but we’ll keep working on that.

There will very likely be a coffee hour on the Thursday before the reunion, during the day, mostly for the benefit of those traveling in to the area from far away! Stay tuned for that info.

Right now we have contact info of one kind or another for 135 people (not all have e’mail) and information on the deaths of 23. The list of folks we're looking for was sent to all e'mail recipients on March 23.

We'll put together a "booklet" after the reunion with info for each individual - probably in MS Publisher and probably available via CD or hard copy.

We are looking for about 112 more people who were in our class - those who graduated or didn't graduate with us (some moved away before graduation) are all welcome to attend our reunion!

Keep in touch! Our big day will be here soon!

Best. Coffee. Hour. Ever.

Actually, I think we have had a couple of events with a few more folks, but last night we had 12 at our monthly coffee hour! So great to see everyone. You know who you are. We discussed the reunion in July - we are generally agreed that we will have strawberry shortcake for dessert! We find ourselves leaning toward "traditional" Pacific Northwest foods for the dinner. And our musical mixmaster, Gary, will be preparing a mix tape of background music from the 1960's and (very) early 1970's. If you have suggestions, be sure to let him know!

[Do they even use the expression, "mix tape" any more?]

Plan on coming to our coffee hour on February 22nd at the Starbucks at exit 232. We always have fun!

Monthly Coffee Hour - Jan. 25th - change of place!

Class of 71 will have our monthly coffee hour on Tuesday, January 25th, at Starbucks - the one at the Cook Road exit off I-5 (exit 232). We normally meet at Common Ground in Burlington, but they have decided to close at 5 p.m. on weeknights during the winter months. So for January and February, we're moving to the Cook Road Starbucks. After that, we'll get back to our regular schedule at Common Ground.

We have found contact info for 114 class members so far! You know why we're looking...because of our 40-year reunion July 9th!!! If you aren't "found" yet, contact us via this blog!

And start thinking about our Loggerodeo parade entry - plan on riding in the parade this year!

Also up next week - the Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni Association meets Wednesday the 26th at 1 p.m. at the S-W Senior Center.

We're happy to see everyone and we always have interesting discussions. Our 40-year reunion planning is under way and if you don't want to be named as the "featured speaker"...you should be coming to the coffee hours!
