The Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni Association has a new blog!

OK, I admit, I did it. But there are a lot of commercial "class reunion-type" web sites out there that are confusing our alums with their claims to be the official site. They're not.

I have been attending the S-WHS Alumni Assn meetings and I put up the blog under their auspices. It is likely that we will have a true web site in the future but right now the blog will do what we need done - to give alumni a place to go for news and contact info!

The next events that you should be aware of are the geranium sale and the All-Class Picnic!

Geranium Sale - Saturday, May 1, at the park next to the Sedro-Woolley Community Center. They sell lovely geranium plants and tomato plants $3.00 each. And some baked goods - always popular - as priced. Come early because all of these items tend to run out! If you want to pre-order (and many do) let me know and I'll put you in touch with the event chair.

All-Class Picnic - Saturday, July 10th, at Riverfront Park in Sedro-Woolley. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This is the BIG event of the year for SWHS Alums! A lovely lunch - prepurchase of lunch tickets is required - $15 per person. Hamburger or chicken. Lunch is served at 1 p.m. Lots of mingling, visiting, photos, etc.! The Association sells raffle tickets to benefit the scholarship fund. Class members sit together - if they want to! Some classes put up their own "tents". Some classes put up a sign (we have one - see it on this page!). Many alums travel for great distances to attend! Put it on your calendar today and I'll put up contact info for ticket purchase when the tickets are ready.

That's the news from downtown Sedro-Woolley. More as it develops!

Class of 71 monthly coffee hour

Reminder: Class of 71 meets monthly - on the "last" Tuesday of each month - at Common Ground on the Pease Road in Burlington for coffee and conversation! From 5ish to 7ish. Come on over and visit around the big table! Common Ground has great lattes and other tasty treats.

Bring handwork if you have it - Nancy brings knitting. Sometimes I bring quilting. Or bring photos! Or bring a spouse! Or bring another Class of 71 member! We're always glad to see everyone!

March 30th is the next opportunity. See you there!

Class of 71 alum news

Keith Sorestad, S-WHS Class of 71 (among other credentials), has been named President of the Economic Development Association of Skagit County board of directors. He was also the "People's Choice" in the category of Insurance Agent for the 2009 Skagit Business Pulse People's Choice Awards.


Here's a photo of Annette Vochatzer Harter and Keith that I took recently at a Camp Kirby event. The S-W Rotary Club refreshed Bluebird Lodge at camp and named it for Fred Vochatzer who has given so many years of service to Camp Fire.

Class of 71 annual scholarships

Sedro-Woolley High School Class of 1971 is pleased to announce that two scholarships are available for 2010.

Offered in conjunction with the Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni Association, the Class of 1971 scholarships are available to graduates of Sedro-Woolley High School or State Street High School, regardless of the year of graduation.

Each scholarship is for $2500; one is exclusively for students pursuing an academic degree and the other is for students pursuing vocational education. Awards are competitive and the due date for applications is March 9, 2010.

In 1976, the Nature Conservancy and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife created the Skagit River Bald Eagle Natural Area. In winter, bald eagles now gather by the hundreds to feed on returning salmon. This project includes another six landowning partners and has preserved more than 9,000 acres of eagle habitat, including more than 10 miles of river and thousands of acres of forests. About 1,300 acres are owned and managed by the Nature Conservancy. www.nature.org
